In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace (Ephesians 1:7).

Just as in Colossians 1:14, the word “redemption” above is used as a synonym to the word “riddance.” It’s translated from the Greek word “Apolutrosis,” which means “to be brought out of trouble.” So, when you say, “Christ is my redemption,” it means He’s your deliverance and your deliverer; your rescuer; the One who plucks you out of trouble.

It parallels what the Psalmist said in Psalm 50:15: “…call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” It doesn’t matter what trouble you get into, Christ is your riddance; He’ll get you out of that trouble. It makes no difference if the trouble was self-inflicted; He’ll get you out. It’s part of the result of His vicarious death, ridding you of or out of trouble.

The Bible says the righteous shall come out of trouble (Proverbs 12:13); that means the righteous may get into trouble, but one thing is certain: he’s coming out of it. It doesn’t matter the proclamation that got you into the trouble; Christ is your riddance. He rids you of trouble, and rids you of anything that’s inconsistent with the provisions of the Gospel. He’s obligated to rescuing you and helping you out of any quagmire.

No wonder the psalmist testified, “He drew me up out of a horrible pit [a pit of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay (froth and slime), and set my feet upon a rock, steadying my steps and establishing my goings. And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God…” (Psalm 40:2-3 AMPC). Hallelujah!

Besides the joy and comfort that this brings, it should give you a certain kind of consciousness and confidence to face life every day and win.

PRAYER

I thank you gracious heavenly Father for the excellent life that I have in Christ! I’m planted on the rock that’s higher than I am, Christ Jesus! Therefore, I’m not moved by circumstances. I’m a victor forever, because Christ is my riddance. He rids me of any trouble and leads me triumphantly from glory to glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
