Arsenal invincible again?

The manner of the FA Cup victory left me wondering

Has Arsene found his mojo and Arsenal their winning toga?

Perhaps, they may have just regained their invincibility

That I gloated in poetic bliss, of its untimely extinction

Today, the specialist in failure has a trophy

While the fear of failure curse, has left Jose unhappy

One Club in London, had a deserved grand parade

And Piers had a celebratory drink in Chelsea

The dam may have been broken, and the flow of silverware inevitable

As the “once Invincible” may have recovered their essence

Kene Okoye, May 2014

I have been made to recant my words penned as far back as 2008.

ONCE INVINCIBLE

To think that they once went 49 games unbeaten

To imagine that they are still under the same tutelage

Yet nothing is left of the invincibility of Arsenal

A team that year in year out flatters to deceive

The love of money, Arsene couldn’t resist

Sold the heart of his team in a desperate rush

Vieira, Cole, Bergkamp, Henry, Ljungberg all gone

Their replacements still immature and all naive

Yet another season without any trophy

And we’ll be told again they are building

Let’s tell Wenger the bitter truth

Artistry alone does not win trophies

Today, I celebrate the fall and fall of Arsenal

Endowed without limits but lacking in discipline

Lacking the cynicism of many a great finishers

This present crop of strikers, are just blunt

Learn from Man U and Chelsea

Tenacity and grit is the key

Once on display at Highbury

Now squandered for the imaginary

Kene Okoye, March 2008

Invincibles
