Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!

image

As Nigeria turns 54 today, I share with you my thoughts:

Nigeria, a land of promise

The pride and jewel of Africa

The site of many ancient kingdoms and empires

A land of over 140 million people and over 500 ethnicities

Blessed with a people as talented as they are diverse

Scattered across the many Nations and territories of the world

Blessing and enriching their communities with their endowments

And flying high the green and white flag

A Nation of immense opportunities

Where peace, unity and justice reigns supreme

Where merit and excellence thrives unfettered

Where violence and corruption is abhorred

A Nation that inspires pride in her people

And breeds confidence and hope in her Neighbours

Where patriotism burns as a fiery fire

And her glittering honour and glory is preserved

This is the Nation I see and the change can start with you and I.

  1. Labour of our heroes past shall not be in vein

  2. I hail thee NIGERIA our own dear native land.

  3. This is a true and clear discription and picture of what God had in mind for our own great Nation, but unfortunately we have deviated from the “GOD’S BIG PICTURE AND PLAN”). But there’s still hope,lf only we can humble ourselves and pray for mercy. RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTS A NATION,BUT SIN IS A REPROACH OR DISGRACE TO THE PEOPLE. IT’S TIME FOR A CHANGE. I PLEDGE MY ALLEGIANCE TO MY GREAT COUNTRY NIGERIA.

  4. This is our Nigeria and it becomes what we make of her. I choose also to see the Nigeria you see.

  5. Nigeria, my Nigeria
    I love this great nation

    Well said Kehny.

  6. I see what you see dear Brother and so shall it be in Jesus name!

  7. God bless Nigeria!

  8. We need a change NOW for this vision to have a hope of coming to pass.

Our selfish natures are apparent everywhere and though we are quick to judge our leaders we fail to see our shortcomings as followers and acknowledge that WE ALL have a role to play.

Micheal Jackson captured this well in his renowned song Man in the Mirror.

    Let’s make that change.

  9. Thanks Guys, well said. If only we could daily walk according to our National Pledge, this Country will be a better place:

I pledge to Nigeria, my Country
To be faithful, loyal and honest
To serve Nigeria with all my strength
To defend her unity and uphold her honour and glory
    So help me God
