As we celebrate the Birthday of Sir Dr. Chinedu Arthur Idoko (KGS), a reputable Physician, a fine Organist and a worthy Dengramite on March 18th, we delve into his achievements and impact in Healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
There are certain men you’ll do well not to doubt their resolve, then there are those it takes absolute foolery to bet against. Sir Arthur Idoko is one of the latter. When he set out to become a School Pianist in our days at Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha, not many gave him a chance. Neither could any adversity deter him from achieving his dream of being a Physician. Arthur is a study in resilience, a hallmark of many great achievers.
Currently a Senior Lecturer in the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria and a Consultant Physician with the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Sir Dr. Chinedu Arthur Idoko (KGS) holds an MBBS degree from the University of Jos, Nigeria and a Masters in Public Health from the University of Nigeria. A Fellow of the West African College of Physicians; Faculty of Community Medicine, Dr. Arthur Idoko also has a certificate in Health Economics from the World Bank Institute, Washington DC.
As the Chairman of the Enugu State Hospitals Management Board, where he brought to bear a number of changes that positively effected the Healthcare Administration/ Service in Enugu State, He was instrumental in bringing Specialist doctors’ presence at the grass roots of care. This he achieved by introducing and upholding the Quarterly Integrated Supportive Supervision (QISS) in the State Government owned hospitals, as well as bringing in the idea of Public Private Partnership in the State Hospitals system. Hospital Administration and Healthcare services provision in the State thrived during his tenure, spanning the era of Gov. Sullivan Chime and the early part of the immediate past administration of Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
Dr. Arthur Idoko is also the immediate past Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Agency for the Control of AIDS (ENSACA), where he had oversight of the Multi sectoral Coordination of HIV/ AIDS control activities in the State (health and non-health sector), working in collaboration with the Line Ministries of Health, Education, Gender and Youth Affairs. In this position, he attracted an array of donor partners presence and support in achieving ENSACA’s HIV/ AIDS mandate in pushing down the prevalence and burden, as well as fighting HIV/ AIDS to finish in Enugu State.
Married to Lady Chinelo Ifeoma Idoko and blessed with 3 lovely Children, Dr. Idoko is a proud family man and a Knight of the Anglican Communion. A man of many parts, Dr. Idoko has an array of business interests and expresses his creativity as a Studio Pianist and Church Organist.
